The Year 5 Advantage
St Patrick’s College offers two main intake year levels for your son: Year 5 and limited enrolments for Year 7.
Starting in Year 5 gives your son a powerful head start. This early transition allows him to grow academically, socially, and emotionally in a nurturing environment that’s fully integrated into the life of the College.
Benefits to your son commencing at St Patrick’s College in Year 5 include:
Seamless Transition into Senior School
Our “one school” approach ensures that Year 5 students are immersed in the full St Patrick’s experience from day one and have an easy introduction to the culture and expectations of the College. Junior students are fully immersed with shared timetables, lunch breaks, and mentoring programs that connect them with Senior students such as the Big Brother – Little Brother program. From Tutor Group and assemblies to House activities, your son will feel connected, supported, and confident as he transitions into Senior school.
Specialist Teachers and Modern Facilities
Years 5 and 6 lay the foundation for future success. Your son will benefit from a dedicated core teacher and access to specialist teachers in key subjects. He will learn in our purpose-designed Junior School Precinct, a modern, dynamic space tailored to the needs of younger students. Your son will be supported by the same high-quality Teaching and Learning and Pastoral Care frameworks that guide every student through to graduation.
Co-curricular Opportunities
From the moment your son joins in Year 5, he will have access to a rich and diverse co-curricular program that fosters teamwork, and personal growth. Whether it’s representing the College in AIC sports, performing in one of our choirs or bands, competing in theatresports or chess, there’s something for every interest and passion! These opportunities help boys build confidence, forge friendships, and discover their strengths outside the classroom.
Leadership Opportunities
At St Patrick’s, leadership begins early. In the Junior School, we inspire students to become Men of Action: Accountable, Courteous, Thoughtful, Inclusive, Organised and to Never Give Up. Those who consistently embody these qualities may be selected as Morrissey Men of Action Leaders in Year 6. These students participate in a youth leadership program, take initiative in launching Junior School focused projects, and represent their peers on the Student Advisory Council. Through their formative experiences, they develop the confidence and skills needed to thrive in leadership roles from Year 7.
Junior Afterschool Activities Program
Starting in 2026, this initiative is designed to support families with work commitments by offering supervised care from 3:00pm to 6:00pm, Monday to Friday during term time. Held on campus, the program blends structured and unstructured activities, including arts and crafts, outdoor games, homework support, and quiet reading time in the library.
At St Patrick’s College, we are committed to nurturing a love of learning in every student, whether he begins his journey with us in Year 5 or Year 7. Through quality teaching, extensive co-curricular programs, and a caring pastoral environment, your son will gain the knowledge, character and confidence to make a positive difference in the world. He will be empowered to become his best self – ready to thrive beyond the College gates.
