OUR HOUSE SYSTEM
The heart of our Pastoral Care program.
From the moment they step onto St Patrick's College grounds, students from Years 5-12 are welcomed into one of nine Houses, designed to foster spiritual, emotional, physical and intellectual growth. It is an environment built on trust, support and friendship.
We believe that positive relationships are the cornerstone of developing well-rounded young Men of Action. Therefore, our Vertical House system plays a central role in student welfare, student behaviour and intra-school competition across academics, sport and arts.
From their first day, students feel an immediate sense of belonging and camaraderie, forging connections that extend beyond the classroom and last a lifetime.
Each House is led by a dedicated House Dean, supported by individual Group Tutors who guide students through their journey at the College. In small tutor groups of approximately 21 students ranging from Years 5 to 12, our young men have different leadership opportunities.
Our Houses
Each of our nine Houses carries a unique identity, history, and motto—representing the legacy of individuals who have shaped St Patrick’s College into what it is today.
Coffey House

Motto: Dedication and Participation
Colour: Blue
Named after Brother Coffey, the first Principal of St Patrick’s College (1952–1957). During his time, Br Coffey displayed inspirational leadership and made St Patrick’s a centre for Christian life and learning.
Kennedy House

Motto: Strive to Conquer
Colour: Purple
Named after Mr John J. Kennedy, the College’s tenth Principal (1995–1999) and the first lay leader. Kennedy pioneered the Vertical House System, launching the first four Houses.
Mooney House

Motto: Strength in Diversity
Colour: Green
Named after Brother Mooney, the College’s fourth Principal (1966–1971). His tenure saw unparalleled development, with major improvements to the College facilities that continue to serve our students today.
O’Rourke House

Motto: Together in Strength and Spirit
Colour: Yellow
Named after Father Patrick O’Rourke, the visionary Parish Priest of Sandgate, who recognised the need for a boys' school and purchased Morven in 1951—laying the foundation for St Patrick’s College.
Quane House

Motto: Burning with Ambition
Colour: Red
Named after Brother Quane, third Principal of the College (1964–1965). Br Quane ignited a new era of sports and community engagement, establishing the College Sports Committee and kindling a new interest amongst parents and students.
Rice House

Motto: Fortune Favours the Brave
Colour: Orange
Named in honour of Edmund Rice and his family, which are represented by the inverted black "V" on the crest. The Celtic cross artwork pays tribute to both the Christian Brothers’ Irish origins and the traditional landowners of our region.
Ryan House

Motto: With Unity Comes Success
Colour: White
Named after Brother Ryan, fifth Principal of the College (1972–1977). As a passionate advocate for sport, Br Ryan transformed the competitive performance of St Patrick’s teams on the field.
Treacy House

Motto: Unyielding Faith
Colour: Teal
Named after Brother Patrick Ambrose Treacy, regarded as the greatest Christian Brother since Blessed Edmund Rice himself. His faith, energy, and dedication were instrumental in establishing the Christian Brothers in Australia.
Xavier House

Motto: By Wisdom, Faith, and Courage
Colour: Maroon
Named after St Francis Xavier’s legendary work. He is considered the greatest missionary since the Apostles and is an outstanding role model to all the religious and lay messengers who followed.
